Level 2 Award in Emergency Breathing Apparatus (EBA)
The Level 2 Award in Emergency Breathing Apparatus is designed for individuals working in the oil and gas industry.
particularly in H₂S (hydrogen sulphide) zones and other toxic environments.
The course aims to develop essential skills and knowledge required to safely operate, inspect, and use breathing apparatus during emergency situations.
Participants will learn how to recognize hazardous gas atmospheres, use breathing apparatus for escape or rescue, and apply safety procedures during H₂S incidents or other gas releases.
Introduction to H₂S and other toxic gases in the oil & gas industry.
Principles and components of breathing apparatus (BA/SCBA/EEBA).
Understanding positive pressure and air supply systems.
Pre-use inspection, maintenance, and safe storage of breathing apparatus.
Donning and doffing procedures under normal and emergency conditions.
Emergency escape and rescue techniques Recognizing alarm systems and response to gas release incidents.
Team coordination and communication in emergencies.
Post-incident procedures, reporting, and debriefing
Offshore and onshore oil & gas workers Drilling crew and rig operators.
HSE officers and emergency response team members.
Maintenance and inspection technicians Contractors working in H₂S-prone areas or confined spaces.
Any individual required to use breathing apparatus during emergency operations.
Must be medically fit to wear breathing apparatus.
Basic H₂S awareness or safety induction training is recommended.
Develop competence in using emergency breathing apparatus safely and efficiently.
Gain awareness of H₂S and toxic gas hazards.
Learn to respond effectively to emergency scenarios and gas release events.
Improve confidence and readiness in high-risk oil & gas environments.
Meet international safety standards for offshore operations.
Earn a globally recognized qualification, enhancing employability and compliance.
Theory Assessment: Written or online multiple-choice questions to test knowledge of hazards, equipment, and emergency response.
Practical Evaluation: Hands-on demonstration of pre-use checks, donning/doffing procedures, and simulated escape/rescue exercises.
Performance Observation: Trainer’s assessment of the participant’s ability to operate safely under time-bound emergency conditions.
Upon successful completion: learners receive the Level 2 Award in Emergency Breathing Apparatus certificate.
